Rebuilding the medical studentís hostel in Galle

Medical students hostel in Galle that provided accomodation for over 200 students was destroyed by the Tsunami. These students come from whole of southern province and were  housed temporarily in accomodation throughout the area. A land was identified within the campus and the building work for a new hostel with 90 rooms housing 180 medical students started in 2007. The hostel also contains common rooms, library, computer room and catering facilities. This project costed at £450,000 (approx. US$750,000) and we are grateful for your contributions towards this project. It was commissioned on the 23rd of October 2009. British High Commissioner in Sri Lanka was present with some of the major donors and  MAGE committee members.

Project almost finished, we have had some difficulties with increased cost of material over the project time and also drop in the sterling pound against Sri Lankan ruppee. We are now raising funds for completing the exterior work and furniture for the rooms and common areas. Other tiems needed include computers and books for the study area/ library
